Director Mike Mitchell "Shrek Forever After" has been hired by Warner Bros. to direct its long-gestating comedy-fantasy project "Monster Squad", says Variety.
"Monster Squad" was formerly known as "Nightcrawlers", when Warner picked up the Brian Lynch's spec in 2000, which tells of an international coalition of kids combating various types of monsters hidden under the beds.
Director McG was originally attached in 2007 to direct from a Michael Arndt script about a neurotic father who must face his fear of childhood monsters who have haunted him, but latest version of the script by Brad Copeland "Yogi Bear" was kept under wraps by the studio.
Donald De Line, Jonathan Shestack, Chris Bender and J.C. Spink will be producing the movie. Warner aiming to begin production next summer.
Mike Mitchell previously also directed "Sky High" and "Surviving Christmas".
