Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has become the top choice to direct Spyglass thriller "The Tourist", even though Donnersmarck hasn't formally negotiate with the studio yet, according to Variety.
The movie, a remake of the 2005 French spy thriller Anthony Zimmer, was originally developed for Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron, with director Bharat Nalluri planning to direct. But the three have stepped away since, and are replaced by Sam Worthington, Angelina Jolie and most probably Donnersmarck.
If negotiation is fruitful, the movie will be back on track to start production February next year, and is likely to be released in 2011.
Spyglass is in partnership with StudioCanal to produce the movie. Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will be producing from the script by Christopher McQuarrie "Valkyrie".
