Welcome to the movie corner, where I will offer recommendations for movies that I have watched, new and old alike. the same rating system will be applied as with reviews for new movies. The first movie we will look at is The Haunting of Molly Hartley.
Directed by: Mickey Liddell
Starring: Haley Bennett, Chase Crawford, Jake Weber
Release date(s): October 31, 2008
Budget: 5,000,000
Gross Revenue: 13,368,675 (Domestically)
Story: [1 point]
The story was weak and there isn't much else I can say about it. It revolves around a girl who is being haunted by her mother who had previously tried to kill her. It's not until we learn that Molly is actually the property of the devil do we realize why her mother tried to take her out. We of course don't learn of this plot until the last 20 minutes of the movie, which given the weakness of revelation makes watching the previous part of the movie a total waste. As you watch you wonder if your even watching a horror movie, because with all that you see your almost surely convinced your watching a teen drama. Not good.
Acting: [1 point]
Well, given that it's a horror you can't expect much in the way of acting. But I have seen horror movies with better acting. Much like Megan Fox in Transformers 2, the actors and actresses go about the movie saying the lines rather than acting them. You can tell when an actor truly does his or her job, when your able to identify the character, and not the actor, this wasn't executed at all.
Scare factor: [1 point]
I'll admit, it takes a lot to scare me these days but usually Supernatural flicks do a good job. Not this one. Given the severely weak satanic overtones, there wasn't much to scare anyone in this flick.
Score/Soundtrack: [1 point]
I was so displeased with the movie I can't even remember what the music sounded like :(
Overall movie enjoyment: [1 point]
Maybe I'm being overly cruel but I watched this movie bored completely to tears. It works if your into Teen Angst and high school themed movies but this movie would have worked better outside the classroom. If your into pseudo-satanic thrillers, then this movie is for you!
Total score: 5 out of 50
