Art Director Yoshiro Muraki passed away at 85

85 years old veteran Japanese production designer, art director and costume designer Yoshiro Muraki died of heart failure at his home in Setagaya, Tokyo, on Monday night, according to Tokyograph.

Muraki was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for his work in the 1970 American-Japanese war movie Tora! Tora! Tora! and director Akira Kurosawa's Kagemusha (1980) and Ran (1985). He was also nominated for the Academy Award for Costume Design for his work in Akira Kurosawa's 1961 period drama Yojimbo.

He won Award of the Japanese Academy for Best Art Direction five times - Ran (1985), Hachi-gatsu no kyôshikyoku (1991), Madadayo (1993), Shijushichinin no shikaku (1994), Ame agaru (1999).
