Yuen Woo-ping finds "Garnet on the Golden Sand"

Director Yuen Woo-ping's Hong Kong-based FilmCan Production has formed a partnership with Ambush Entertainment's Matthew Leutwyler and Miranda Bailey to co-produce a new kungfu movie which he will also direct.

Script of the movie, "Garnet on the Golden Sand" was written by Jun Tan "Dead & Breakfast". Set in the 17th century, it revolves around a European merchant and two Chinese swordsmen who are recruited by the leader of a prosperous trade town along the Silk Road to fight off a notorious desert raider.

Woo-ping was a prolific director in the ’80s and ’90s, directed movies including Drunken Master (1978), Last Hero in China (1993), Tai Chi Master (1993), Iron Monkey (1993) and Iron Monkey 2 (1996). He also done action choreography for "Kung Fu Hustle," "Kill Bill" and "The Matrix" franchise.

Woo-ping is now busy directing another kungfu movie "True Legend" starring Vincent Zhao, Zhou Xun, Jay Chou, Michelle Yeoh, Andy On, and Guo Xiaodong.

Shooting of "Garnet..." is scheduled to begin next Summer in China.
