Producer Jim Jacks, who previously produced movies includes "Mummy" franchise and The Scorpion King, has signed on to produce the $25 million supernatural action thriller "Mortis Rex." The movie marks the directorial debut of "Hellboy" co-writer Peter Briggs, who also wrote "Mortis Rex" script.

Jacks will be producing through his Frelaine Productions banner, with Stuart Pollok, Matthew Dench of The Dench Arnold Agency and Marisa Kagan of Magenta Management and Production.

The story is set in 123 AD, where a disgraced Roman war hero is sent to defend a Roman garrison stationed in remote Scotland from a spate of mysterious killings. The hero reclaims his rightful warrior status by uniting with the local Druids and vanquishing a terrifying supernatural beast.

London-based film finance and international sales company Intandem Films will be executive produce with Blowtorch Entertainment Dominic Ianno, who played a key role in securing the financing.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in spring 2010 in the UK, Italy and Eastern Europe.
