Laeta Kalogridis, the screenwriter who wrote the script for Martin Scorsese's upcoming thriller "Shutter Island," has been hired by DreamWorks to adapt Japanese manga "Ghost in the Shell." She replaced Jamie Moss who was previously attached to write.

DreamWorks acquired the rights to "Ghost in the Shell" in April last year, planning to make the futuristic police thriller as a 3D live-action movie.

Shirow Masamune's multimedia franchise manga series "Ghost in the Shell" has been adapted into three anime movies: Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society; two anime tv series, and three video games.

Seaside Entertainment's trio of Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will be producing the movie.
