Matt Damon and Josh Brolin in talks for Coen Bro's "True Grit"

If the results of the negotiations with the Coen Brothers are fruitful, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin will be the latest to join Jeff Bridges in the redo of John Wayne's 1969 western drama, "True Grit," reports Variety.

Bridges is starring as U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn, a role which John Wayne previously starred in. Damon would be playing a young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (previously played by Glen Campbell), who teams with Cogburn to help a 14 year old girl Mattie Ross to track down her father's killer Tom Chaney (previously played by Jeff Corey), which would be played by Brolin. There is no word yet on who will play Mattie Ross.

The Coens who have written a screenplay which they hope is more faithful to the Charles Portis novel than the 1969 film was, will be producing the movie with Scott Rudin and Steven Spielberg.

Shooting is expected to begin in March 2010.
