As reported earlier this week, Gary Ross will be rewriting the script for "Venom", and maybe direct. But now, this will have to wait, as Ross is set to direct spy fiction "Matt Helm", taking over from Steven Spielberg after he turned away from the project, reports The Playlist.

Matt Helm is a fictional character created by author Donald Hamilton. The Helm character is a American counter-agent whose primary job is to kill or nullify enemy agents. The book series totaling at 27, started in 1960, and over a 33-year period. In the 60's, it was made into a movie series starring Dean Martin.

The movie will be co-produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Screenplay was written by Paul Attanasio.

Bradley Cooper "The Hangover" is likely to star as Matt Helm, although no deal has been made yet.

Spielberg who actually started the Matt Helm project before decided to direct "Harvey" instead, will still be producing with Alex Kutzman and Robert Orci.
