Shooting has begun for John Woo's "Jianyu Jianghu"

Shooting has begun in Shanghai for the John Woo-produced martial arts movie "Jianyu Jianghu," literally translated as "the rain of swords in the martial art world."

The John Woo and Taiwanese director Su Chao-pin co-directed movie boasts a star-studded cast of Malaysian kungfu star Michelle Yeoh, South Korea's Woo-sung Jung, Taiwan's Chen Chang and Barbie Hsu, Hong Kong's Kelly Lin, and China's Wang Xueqi. Woo's daughter Angeles Woo, got a minor role as a mysterious killer.

The US$12 million movie is about an lady assassin (Yeoh) who falls in love with a postman (Woo-sung Jung), neither is aware the man's father was killed by her gang nor that he is a trained martial artist. Their love blossoms but then the past comes back to haunt them.

Producer Terence Chang of Lion Rock Productions, who is a long-time working partner of John Woo, and will also be working alongside him in this movie which he describes as a combination of "Face/Off" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" set in China's ancient Ming Dynasty.

Hong Kong's Media Asia and China's Galloping Horses Film are financing the movie, while John Woo and Terence Chang will be producing alongside Taipei-based Stellar Entertainment managing director David Tang.
