Director Oliver Stone is set to develop and possibly direct the detective feature "Travis McGee" for 20th Century Fox.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star as the title character, a Salvage Consultant who is also a self-described beach bum, living on a houseboat in Florida, taking on cases only when his money runs low.
"Travis McGee" is a fictional detective character created by American mystery writer John D. MacDonald, and has appeared in 21 books, starting from "The Deep Blue Good-by" in 1964.
The feature's plotline would be taken from "The Deep Blue Goodbye," in which the detective searches for a World War II treasure. It's adaptation script was written by Dana Stevens.
Fox-based Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin will co-produce alongside Amy Robinson, DiCaprio's Appian Way production and Jennifer Davisson Killoran.
