Alex Pettyfer to star in "I Am Number Four"

Alex Pettyfer ("Stormbreaker," "Beastly") is in negotiation to star in the lead role in DreamWorks Studios' teen alien feature "I Am Number Four."

Screenplay were written by "Smallville" scriptwriters Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the first of a six-book science fiction series by James Frey and Jobie Hughes.

Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are producing the movie, while David Valdes, Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are executive producing.

D.J. Caruso ("Disturbia," "Eagle Eye") is set to direct the movie, which revolves around.... a group of nine Earthbound aliens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by an enemy species. They hide out on Earth, disguised as teenagers under the protection of a charm that means their enemies can only kill them in numeric order. But soon Number Four (Pettyfer) finds out that the first three of the nine of them are dead, and he is next being hunted in the numeric order.
