Gabriele Muccino in talks to direct "Passengers"

Italian director Gabriele Muccino who gained success directing Monica Bellucci's starrer "Ricordati di me," and Will Smith starrer "The Pursuit of Happyness," is in advanced talks with Morgan Creek Production to direct a sci-fi romance movie "Passengers," starring Keanu Reeves.

Script written by Jon Spaihts, the movie is set in the future on a spacecraft making a centuries-long interstellar voyage to a new planet. Due to a computer glitch, a single passenger (Reeves) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years before anyone else. Realized that he'll grow old and dying alone, he decides to awaken a beautiful woman.

Reeves developed the movie with producer Stephen Hamel via their Company Films banner. Morgan Creek's chairman and CEO James G. Robinson will be producing with Hamel. Shooting is planned for this summer.
