PARIS -- Gerard Depardieu will star in helmer Jean Becker's "La Tete en friche."
Based on Marie-Sabine Roger's novel, "Friche" was penned by Becker and Jean-Loup Dabadie.
Depardieu stars as an illiterate and lonely man whose life is enlightened by an unusual friendship with an older and well-read woman, played by 95-year-old Gisele Casadesus.
Casadesus, who's had a prolific theater career in France, won an honorary Moliere award in 2003.
Budgeted at $13 million, pic is produced by Louis Becker via Ice 3 and is co-produced by Paris-based KJB Prods., France 3 Cinema and StudioCanal.
StudioCanal handles international sales and will release the film in France in June.
Becker last directed "Love Me No More," which nabbed three Cesar nominations this year.
