Moverman set to direct Ellroy's "Rampart"

Oren Moverman, who made his directorial debut with the military drama feature "The Messenger" starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton, is set to write the script and direct police coruption feature "Rampart" for Lightstream Pictures.

Based on the script by crime writer James Ellroy ("The Black Dahlia," "White Jazz"), movie centers on a police officer during the LAPD's Rampart Division scandal in the late 1990s, which more than 70 officers were implicated in misconduct including unprovoked shootings, beatings, planting of evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury and covering up evidence.

Woody Harrelson, meanwhile, is in talks to star in the feature, and Ben Foster is also rumoured to be joining as well.

Lightstream Pictures' Lawrence Inglee and Paul Currie are co-producing the feature with Clark Peterson "Monster."
