Doug Liman ("Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "Jumper") is in talks to direct the remake of Alexandre Dumas' classic 17th-century adventure "The Three Musketeers" for Warner Bros.

Lionel Wigram, who also produced "Sherlock Holmes" for Warners, will produce the movie, which means Warner Bros. is now in a direct fight with Summit’s version of Musketeers movie, which is in 3D, and being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

Peter Straughan "The Men Who Stare at Goats" has been hired to write the screenplay for the Warners' movie.

"The Three Musketeers" is about a young musketeer by the name of D'Artagnan, who join forces with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the veteran musketeers, to fight against the villian Cardinal Richelieu. Cast for the project is yet unknown.
