Focus Features has acquired the feature rights to Peter Hedges' latest novel "The Heights," which was published last month.

Hedges, who wrote and directed "Pieces of April" and "Dan in Real Life," will adapt from his own novel, then direct and produce.

"The Heights" centers on a happily married young couple, Tim Welch and Kate Oliver, living in a upscale Brooklyn Heights neighborhood with their two young sons. But their seemingly perfect lives turned upside down when a wealthy family who moves into their neighborhood.

John Lyons, Focus' president of production, produced Hedges' "Pieces of April" before he joined Focus, and is set to again collaborate with him on "The Heights."

Lyons was quoted as saying, "I'm thrilled to be working with Peter again. He is a filmmaker of great warmth and humor, and with "The Heights" we will be taking full advantage of his considerable skills."
