Bedrock Studios, which was launched earlier this year, has acquired screen rights to Katherine Paterson's upcoming fantasy novel "The Flint Heart," and is collaborating with Arcady Bay Entertainment to make a movie based on it.

David Paterson, Arcady Bay's creative principal, will adapt his mother's novel, and make it into a special effects driven live-action feature.

The novel which Katherine teamed with husband John Paterson Sr. on, is a story that spans from the Stone Age to modern day England, revolves around a magical amulet that brings power and despair to those handling it.

Children's book publisher Candlewick Press is set to publish the novel early next year.

Bedrock Studios' founder Cary Granat was quoted as saying, "Reuniting with Katherine and Arcady Bay Entertainment is something we've been looking forward to for quite some time. Katherine gives us such a rich tapestry to work with, and story lines to bring to life on the screen."

No words as yet on when production for the movie will begin.
