Movie Previews: Daybreakers

Like Vampire flicks? You'll love this early 2010 thriller....
Directed by: Peter and Michael Spierig
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Defoe, Claudia Karvan
Release Date: January 8th, 2010
Distributed by: Lionsgate Entertainment
Premise:
In 2019, a plague transforms the world's population into vampires. With fewer humans to provide blood, the vampires seek to farm the remaining humans and to find a way to continue their existence. A secret team of vampires uncover a way that would rescue the human race.
I first saw the Daybreaker's trailer while waiting for none other than The Final Destination to come on. And I know a movie might be worth seeing if it gives me goosebumps, and that's what this trailer did.

The music they chose ("Running up that hill" By Placebo) for the trailer suited the atmosphere of the the trailer, adding to it's dark and chilling ambiance. The trailer also did a perfect job of telling you what the movie is about, without revealing much else. It introduced you to the main characters, the main plot, and even showed you some creatures for you to jump at. But didn't once pull what the trailer for The Island did. (If you saw that trailer, you know what I'm talking about.)

As for the movie itself, it sounds and looks like a breath of fresh air from the otherwise old and dreary Vampire movies we always see. The last Vampire movie I remember seeing was Queen of the Damned and bringing an old school Vampire like Lestat into modern times was just plain corny with a dash of cheese thrown in. Lestat is meant for movies like Interview with the Vampire, when you venture into modern movies, you need to bring modern Vampires, plain and simple. I'm a big fan of Vampire movies so I'm excited to see how this one plays out, and if your a big fan just as I am, you wont want to miss Daybreakers.
