Film Reviews: The Final Destination

The Final Destination: Review
So, I saw The Final Destination in 3D opening weekend and I was already unimpressed with the amount of other movie goers in the theater, no more than a scatter of people, far less than what's expected at an opening weekend.....
Directed by: David R. Ellis
Starring: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanStanten, Haley Webb, Nick Zano, Krista Allen
Running time: 81 mins.
Release Date(s): August 28, 2009

Point system: 1 to 10 for each category.

Story: [1 point]
The Story gets one point. And here's why. The first installment of Final Destination was scary, and it actually made you question getting on a plane. The story made Death almost like a sadistic serial killer, picking off it's victims one by one, and by the end you left the theater a little more than freaked. Part 2 actually tied the characters in with part 1, which made the story, while a little bored, doable. Part 3 is where they began to stray off the path in terms of story, focusing more on gore and less on storytelling. Final Destination 3's story and plot was very flaky. But this one takes the cake as your still trying to figure out what death's design for the character's are, and in the end, your left scratching your head....

Acting: [1 point]
If your not too busy trying to figure out what the plot is, your dying from the sheer cardboard acting. The comic relief of the film comes off as cold, the star comes off less like trying to figure things out and more like a guy without a clue, and the leading lady sounds like she's reading her lines straight off the script paper, horrible.

Gore and/or Scary factor: [5 points]
I'll admit that they didn't skimp on the gore, but at time's it's a bit over the top. But it works if your watching it in 3D. Watch it elsewhere and might not be so enjoyable.

Movie Score: [1 point]
The Final Destination theme was one of the most scary things about the series....Until Brian Tyler put his Fast and Furious spin on it. That is one thing they could have left as is. The soundtrack itself is your standard alternative rock soundtrack, nothing memorable about it.

Overall Movie Enjoyment: [7 points]
I give it 7 points because while the story and acting was terrible, I still had a good time watching it, it's even more enjoyable watching it in 3D. If your into insane gore, this movie is for you.

Total point score: 15 out of 50

  2. I just couldn't understand why they continued to make this 4th series. Maybe they just don't know how to end this!

  3. Hopefully this will truly be the final one...Really, this one was not good. I couldn't find one thing good about it. Unless you wanna count nudity in 3D....

  4. well guys arent you a little harsh on it.This is a franchise movie. From that point, story is not a problem since this is a cut and paste from previous opus without any further elobaration or new idea to come up witth the plot. I think as a slasher movie it's done great. Furthermore, i didn't have anything else to watch, and that was worth passing time

What im currently fearing is the franchise of Saw. The first trilogy was great. Everyone must admit: for a horror movie finally there's a true storyline link with the trilogy. But i was disappointed in the 4th and 5th :(
