Director Pierre Morel "Taken" has been hired by Paramount to direct "Dune," the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi novel, taking over from Peter Berg who left to commit himself to Universal's "Battleship."

Morel will re-work the script originally written by Josh Zetumer "Quantum of Solace" with a new yet to be hired screenwriter.

Frank Herbert's novel "Dune," which was first turned into a movie by David Lynch in 1984, is set in the far future and tells of galactic struggle to control the supply of a valuable "spice" melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe, found only on the desert planet Arrakis.

Misher Films' Kevin Misher will produce the movie alongside New Amsterdam's Richard Rubenstein, who previously produced T.V movies "Dune" and "Children of Dune."
