Martin Scorsese is in negotiations with Graham King's GK Films to direct the adaptation of Brian Selznick's long-running Times best-selling children's book "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by screenwriter John Logan "The Aviator."

"Ice Age" director Chris Wedge was previously attached to direct "Hugo Cabret," but later dropped out for unknown reason.

Movie is about a 12-year-old orphan named Hugo, who lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, and maintains the station’s clocks. A whole new adventure begins when he discovers a broken robot left by his late father, one of the wind-up, mechanical figures created by film-maker Georges Méliès, and works to bring it to life.

GK Films will produce the live-action movie alongside Scorsese, Tim Headington and Johnny Depp's production company Infinitum Nihil.

Production is currently on the fast track for 1st of June start in London.
