Director Mark Pellington ("The Mothman Prophecies," "Arlington Road") has been hired by New Line to direct "The Orphanage," a remake of the Spanish-language Juan Antonio Bayona's 2007 ghost tale "El Orfanato."

Guillermo del Toro who was the creative supervisor on the original movie, will be producing alongside ContraFilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson. Del Toro also co-wrote the screenplay with Larry Fessenden.

In "El Orfanato," a woman by the name of Laura, returns to her childhood home, an orphanage and plans to turn the house into a home for disabled children, but soon she and her husband Carlos realize that their adopted son Simón starts to communicate with an imaginary masked friend named Tomás.
