Peter Sarsgaard ("Boys Don't Cry," "Shattered Glass") is in negotiations to star opposite Ryan Reynolds as the villain Dr. Hector Hammond in Warner Bros.' superhero live-action movie "Green Lantern."

Sarsgaard plays Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator who discovers fragments of a meteor and becomes infused supernatural powers such as psychic powers and telepathy.

Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a second-generation test pilot, an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur, whose spaceship crashed on Earth.

Blake Lively "Gossip Girl" plays Hal Jordan's love interest, Carol Ferris.

Martin Campbell will direct from the script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Michael Green and Michael Goldenberg. Greg Berlanti will also be co-producing with Donald DeLine.

Production is scheduled to begin in March with a release date of June 17, 2011.
