French actor Vincent Cassel ("Irréversible," "Ocean's Twelve") has been cast as the leading actor in 18th century-set suspense feature "The Monk," and will star alongside Deborah Francois "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life", Sergi Lopez "Leaving" and Geraldine Chaplin "The Orphanage".
French-German director Dominik Moll ("With a Friend Like Harry," "Lemming") will direct the movie, which is based on Matthew Lewis' Gothic novel, and depicts the rise and tragic downfall of Capucin Ambrosio, a respected Spanish monk.
The 11 million Euro movie is produced by Diaphana Films' Michel Saint-Jean and Madrid-based company Morena Films' Alvaro Longoria.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in mid-April.
