James Cameron has beaten his own previous all-time high domestic record "Titanic" after "Avatar," which has topped the domestic boxoffice for seven consecutive weeks, broke "Titanic's" $600.8 million record with $601.1 million earnings to become the highest domestic grossing film ever.

On international market, "Avatar" has earned $1.48 billion to become the newest overseas record holder after "Titanic." In total, the 3D sci-fi actioner accumulated a worldwide earnings of $2.08 billion.

"Avatar's" nine Oscar nominations, including best picture and best director, is tied with "The Hurt Locker," and leading other nominees.

Fox domestic distribution president Bruce Snyder was quoted as saying, "I have no idea where we go from here. The only picture that has gotten this high was "Titanic,' but 'Avatar' is coming off of a $30 million weekend while 'Titanic' was ending its theatrical run at the same point in the earnings."
